There are two types of people every organization, non-profit or high capacity team needs.
WOW people and HOW people.
WOW people are the visionary leaders. It’s the guy with the great idea and the passion to make something happen. It’s the woman willing to take a risk because she believes something needs to change. WOW people are idealistic, inspirational and excited about the possibility.
But WOW people rarely get things done on their own. They need HOW people.
HOW people may not come up with the idea, but they know how to execute. They are implementers and executioners. They know how to take a big dream and break it down into steps. They love progress and process.
In order for a team, company or mission to succeed, you need both of these people. WOW people need HOW people and vice versa.
If you’re all about the vision, get some HOW people around you and give them the freedom to take action. If you love systems and processes, invite some big thinkers in your life to push you forward.
And here’s one bonus tip for making the relationship and project work.
When you’re brainstorming and dreaming, don’t bring too many HOW people to the meeting. Because they will kill momentum before it even starts.
And when you’re planning and strategizing, don’t let the WOW people take over, because they will try to solve every single problem with vision.
HOW people and WOW people are very different. And you need both to be successful.
